A dynamic journey through Georgia, combining spectacular trekking routes with ancient stories and traditions. From the capital Tbilisi, travel up into the Caucasus along the Georgian Military Highway to Stepantsminda, passing towering peaks and untouched valleys. Hikes in the Truso and Juta valleys lead to the foot of Mount Kazbegi and the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church. The journey continues into the remote Svaneti region, reaching Mestia and Ushguli, among medieval towers and glaciers. Crossing canyons, cave towns such as Uplistsikhe, and breathtaking landscapes, you will discover the country’s wild and natural soul.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival, Tbilisi
Departure for Georgia and arrival in Tbilisi. Meals at leisure. Overnight stay in Tbilisi (transfers not included).
Day 2 Tbilisi
Arrival in the early morning (for night flights) and hotel check-in. Full day dedicated to exploring the capital of Georgia. The program includes both the Old and New Town: starting from Old Tbilisi with the Sioni Cathedral (7th century), then ascending to Narikala Fortress (4th century), one of the oldest fortifications in the city. You will stop for lunch at leisure in a local restaurant, then reach the Sulphur Baths and continue with a walk along Rustaveli Avenue. After a city tour, visit the Ananuri fortress complex (17th century) overlooking the Zhinvali reservoir. Cross the Cross Pass to reach Gudauri (2,200 m). Overnight stay in Gudauri. Lunch and dinner at leisure.
Day 3 Truso Valley and Stepantsminda
The stunning Truso Valley combines mountains, pristine nature, and ancient villages. The white and reddish travertines along the route are natural treasures that will leave you in awe. After the hike, continue to Stepantsminda via Jvari Pass (2,395 m), surrounded by rivers and snowy peaks. Note: Truso Gorge is at around 2,000 m altitude. Elevation gain and loss: 467 m, hiking time approx. 5.5 hours. Overnight in Stepantsminda. Picnic lunch, dinner at leisure.
Day 4 Juta and Mount Chaukhebi
Cross the beautiful Sno Valley to reach the village of Juta (2,270 m), a remote settlement with an ancient lifestyle. From here, hike through green alpine meadows towards Mount Chaukhebi (3,842 m). The trail leads through rivers, flowers, and mountain scenery, with blooming white rhododendrons in early summer. Picnic by a small mountain lake before returning. Elevation gain/loss: 400 m, hiking time approx. 4.5 hours. Dinner at leisure. Overnight in Stepantsminda.
Day 5 From Stepantsminda to Tbilisi
Morning hike to Gergeti Trinity Church (2,170 m), offering stunning views of Mount Kazbegi (5,047 m). Elevation gain/loss: 470 m, hiking time approx. 3.5 hours. Continue along the Georgian Military Highway and visit Mtskheta, the ancient capital and religious center of Georgia. See Jvari Monastery (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century), both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Return to Tbilisi. Lunch at leisure, dinner at leisure. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 6 Zugdidi and Mestia
Travel by Georgian Railway to western Georgia, to Zugdidi. From there, continue towards Svaneti, a remote and isolated region surrounded by some of the highest peaks of the Caucasus. The road reveals glaciers, medieval defensive towers, untouched nature, and deep river gorges. Lunch at leisure in Zugdidi, dinner at leisure in Mestia. Overnight in Mestia.
Day 7 Koruldi Lakes
Morning hike to the Koruldi Lakes, at the foot of Mount Ushba (4,700 m). Along the way you will see peaks and glaciers including Tetnuldi (4,800 m), Lyla (4,008 m), Chatini (4,012 m), and Banguriani (3,838 m), with panoramic views over Mestia. From the lakes, enjoy a 360-degree view of the Caucasus. Return to Mestia. Elevation gain/loss: 1,400 m, hiking time approx. 7 hours. Option to shorten the hike with 4x4 transport (extra cost). Overnight in Mestia. Lunch and dinner at leisure.
Day 8 Ushguli and Shkhara Glacier
Drive by 4x4 to Ushguli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site at 2,400 m, one of the highest inhabited villages in Europe, known for its medieval stone towers. Hike through the Enguri Valley to the Shkhara Glacier, surrounded by summer wildflowers. Visit the Lamaria Church (12th century) before returning to Mestia. Hiking time approx. 6 hours, elevation gain 350 m. Overnight in Mestia.
Day 9 Martvili Canyon and Kutaisi
Travel through the Samegrelo region towards Kutaisi. Visit Martvili Canyon, including a short boat ride and a walk through the shaded forest. Continue to Kutaisi, an ancient city linked to the myth of the Golden Fleece. Lunch at leisure in Martvili, dinner at leisure in Kutaisi. Overnight in Kutaisi.
Day 10 Kutaisi and Uplistsikhe
Morning walk in Kutaisi, then continue to Gori along the ancient Silk Road. Visit the cave city of Uplistsikhe (6th century BC), a well-preserved pagan religious centre carved into rock. In the late afternoon return to Tbilisi. Lunch at leisure, dinner at leisure. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 11 Departure, Tbilisi
Transfer to the airport and return flight.
