Grand tour of Iceland

Arrival in Reykjavik and transfer from the airport to the city center. Check-in at the hotel on your own, dinner at leisure and overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel and meet your tour leader. Morning exploration of the Golden Circle with a first stop at Þingvellir National Park, located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are drifting apart, creating spectacular fissures and valleys. Continue to the Haukadalur valley, a geothermal area with the erupting Strokkur geyser next to the famous (now mostly inactive) Geysir. End the morning at Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls. In the afternoon, travel to Borgarnes along the Akranes Peninsula, featuring cliffs, black sand beaches, and two historic lighthouses, one offering panoramic views of the area. Breakfast at the hotel and exploration of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Visit Arnastapi, a picturesque fishing village surrounded by spectacular basalt cliffs formed by volcanic activity, home to numerous seabird species. Stop at Lóndrangar, two imposing basalt cliffs rising from the Atlantic coast, remnants of an ancient volcanic crater. In the early afternoon, tour the Vatnshellir lava cave, following a 200-meter path inside the cave to admire the lava formations. The final stop is Kirkjufell, the iconic pyramid-shaped mountain, surrounded by stunning landscapes including Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel. Travel along Iceland’s spectacular northern coast, leaving the southwest behind for wilder, more pristine landscapes. First stop at Blönduós, known for its modern church inspired by the unique nature of the area, resembling a volcanic crater. In the early afternoon, reach Hauganes, a small fishing village on the Eyjafjörður fjord, for a traditional wooden boat excursion of approximately three hours to spot whales. Continue to Akureyri, considered the “capital of North Iceland.” Dinner and overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit Godafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods," 12 meters high and 30 meters wide. Continue to the surreal Lake Myvatn, stopping at Skútustaðagígar (volcanic craters), the Grjótagjá cave, and the lava formations of Dimmuborgir. The shallow lake’s waters reflect the sun’s light, creating a stunning palette of colors. Lunch at leisure. Relax in the geothermal Myvatn Nature Baths, immersed in wild nature. Continue to Egilsstaðir. Dinner and overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel and depart for Diamond Beach, famous for its spectacular ice fragments on black sand, sparkling in the sunlight. Lunch at leisure. Continue to Jökulsárlón for an exciting amphibian boat tour among the floating icebergs, observing their varied hues caused by the mix of seawater and freshwater. Travel to the Vík area, check in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel. Explore Reynisfjara Beach with its black sand, basalt columns rising from the ocean, dramatic rock formations such as the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, and Hálsanefshellir cave. Reynisfjara is also known for strong waves and currents, requiring caution. Continue to the famous Skógafoss waterfall. Stop at Seljalandsfoss, a 60-meter waterfall plunging from a steep cliff, allowing visitors to walk behind the cascading water. Brief stop at Hvolsvöllur village before returning to Reykjavik. Check in at the hotel, dinner at leisure, overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer via shuttle from the city center to the airport.
