Itinerary

Days 1 to 6 From Quito (Ecuador) to Popayán (Colombia)
Leaving Ecuador’s capital, Quito, your journey continues to the town of Otavalo, famous for its lively artisan market. Next, cross into Colombia to visit the Santuario de Las Lajas. This neo-Gothic church, built on a stone bridge spanning a deep gorge, is the main highlight of the stop in Ipiales. Depending on time and preference, you may camp in Ipiales or Pasto, or continue to the stunning colonial city of Popayán, nicknamed the “White City,” where you’ll pause for a restock before continuing your journey.
Days 7 to 14 From Parque Puracé to Medellín
Travel west through Parque Puracé, passing the imposing Puracé volcano and keeping an eye out for condors. In San Agustín, you can explore the Archaeological Park, home to ancient figures and tombs carved from volcanic rock. Heading north, you’ll enter the mountains around Salento, where an optional visit to a local coffee plantation is available. Next, visit Santa Fe de Antioquia, a quiet colonial town with art galleries, museums, and beautiful examples of colonial architecture. Finally, reach the lively and famous Medellín, the perfect place to take a tango or salsa class and put your new moves into practice at one of the city’s local venues.
Days 15 to 21 From Medellín to Cartagena
The journey continues toward Santa Marta and Tayrona National Park. Here, you’ll have the chance to go snorkeling or, if desired, scuba diving in some of the bays considered among the most beautiful on the South American coast. The final leg includes a quick dip at Volcán de Lodo El Totumo before heading to Cartagena. Spend two nights soaking up the city’s vibrant atmosphere with the included tour and a boat trip to Playa Blanca. With its turquoise waters and golden sands, it’s one of Cartagena’s most famous beaches and the perfect finale to your adventure.
