Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival, Cape Town to Oudtshoorn via Route 62
Your adventure begins in Cape Town. Departing from your hotel, you’ll head to Oudtshoorn through the Cape Winelands along Route 62, the country’s longest wine route. Lunch in Barrydale (at own expense), a charming town nestled between the Langeberg Mountains and the semi-arid Klein Karoo. After lunch, enjoy a scenic drive to Calitzdorp, South Africa’s port wine capital, with the option to participate in a wine tasting (at own expense). A short distance away lies Oudtshoorn, the world capital of ostriches, home to over 400 ostrich farms and the famous “Feather Mansions.” Evening at leisure for dinner in town. Meals: Dinner (breakfast and lunch not included)
Day 2 Oudtshoorn to Tsitsikamma via Prince Alfred’s Pass
After breakfast at the hotel, explore the magical underground world of the Cango Caves, dating back around 20 million years. Back on the surface, travel through the stunning Karoo, passing villages like De Rust and De Vlugt, then tackle a section of South Africa’s longest accessible mountain pass: Prince Alfred’s Pass. Continue to the coastal town of Keurboomstrand for lunch (at own expense) at a beachside restaurant. The road leads on to the misty, ancient forests of Tsitsikamma. Towering yellowwood, pear, and stinkwood trees form a rich ecosystem teeming with wildlife. Experience the ancient power of the forest while enjoying dinner and hospitality in the village of Storms River. Meals: Breakfast and dinner (lunch not included)
Day 3 Tsitsikamma to Knysna
Spend the morning exploring the village of Tsitsikamma on foot. Option to take a guided one-hour forest walk (Goesa Trail, 2 km, at own expense and subject to availability). Depart late morning to reach the Storms River suspension bridge for a one-hour walk with spectacular views of the gorge and ocean. Leaving the forest behind, continue to the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay for lunch (at own expense) before arriving in Knysna. Famous for its inland waterways and the Knysna Heads—sandstone cliffs marking the lagoon entrance—Knysna offers art galleries, craft markets, a gin distillery, and a Motorcycle Museum. End the day with a scenic lagoon cruise, tasting oysters, spotting dolphins at the river mouth, and enjoying dinner at your hotel. Meals: Breakfast and dinner (lunch not included)
Day 4 Tsitsikamma to Knysna
Travel to Mossel Bay via the town of Wilderness and the “Map of Africa” viewpoint, where the Kaaimans River outlines a natural map of the continent. Explore the town’s rich history at the Bartolomeu Dias Museum and its iconic Post Office Tree, over 500 years old. Board the replica ship used by Dias, the first European to circumnavigate the Cape of Good Hope (subject to availability). Lunch in town (at own expense) before continuing to Albertinia, South Africa’s aloe capital. Relax before an afternoon safari on an open vehicle to spot lions, white rhinos, elephants, buffalo, and cheetahs. The reserve, near the Langeberg Mountains, is home to 207 bird species, including peregrine falcons, kestrels, lesser eagles, and blue cranes. Meals: Breakfast and dinner (lunch not included)
Day 5 Knysna to Albertinia via Mossel Bay
Start early with a thrilling morning safari, listening to the birds as the sun illuminates the plains and animals move toward water. Add new species to your wildlife sightings and stay alert for the Big Five. After breakfast, travel through fertile farmlands, rivers, and fields dotted with aloe and proteas toward Swellendam. The scenic route from Swellendam to Arniston offers breathtaking views. Spend the afternoon in this seaside village, discovering whitewashed cottages that make it a haven for artists. Conclude the day with a relaxing dinner at your hotel. Meals: Breakfast and dinner (lunch not included)
Day 6 Arniston to Cape Town and Departure
On your final day, visit Cape Agulhas National Park, stretching 200 km along the coast between Gansbaai and Struisbaai. Stand at the southernmost point of Africa, where the cold Atlantic meets the warm Indian Ocean, and see the official line marking this divide. Cape Agulhas is where the compass needle always points north. Continue to Hermanus, renowned for whale watching and natural beauty, with views of the Overberg Mountains and the Indian Ocean. With some luck, you may even spot whales (seasonal). Lunch at own expense before returning to Cape Town for departure. Meals: Breakfast (lunch not included)
